an excursion to new england

except for this sad-dog view, i love the anticipation of travel --- knowing robert was taking good care of the hound dog and the cat left me to really enjoy the little excursion to new york and new england: up u.s. 9 along the hudson river, across vermont, and down u.s. 5 along the connecticut river --- terrain sculpted by glaciers and a cultural landscape centuries old and full of spectacular architecture --- the old dirt roads paralleling the rivers are still there to drive in a lot of places, made even more wonderful by the random greek revival or federal-style house sitting there out in the woods --- catskills, adirondacks, green mountains, and berkshires, all places i've wanted to see, and to which i now want to return whenever i can
