recapitulating cuba: the flora

i should have been prepared for the flora of cuba, but really wasn't, i wish we had visited some botanical gardens --- i saw a lot of my house plants growing out in the yard, including sanseveria, pothos, syngonium, etc. --- cuba is known for its orchids (two new species were discovered in 2012) but none that i saw were in bloom (my big cattleya greeted me with blossoms when i returned home)
royal palm (several species of roystonea) are absolutely magnificent everywhere we went --- they're planted all over south florida, but only grow wild at a few places in the everglades

the delonix regia, or flamboyant tree, is purty special, too --- throw in a blue sky and the view rocks

cuba has something besides over-engineered cavendish bananas --- short, plump, and wonderful
