arboreal sadness

it's not a good time for old trees in midtown --- and this eastern cottonwood is one of the oldest --- each year another big limb is removed --- i thought it would go last year

but it's the intentional cutting that hurts most --- as i feared, the wonderful american elm on cypress and the weird little grove of virginia pine at the corner of cypress and eighth  and everything else all have fluorescent orange "X" on their trunks --- they're removing every tree on the block
