spello

the last hill town we saw was spello, which is pronounced spel-lo, not spel-o, which is hard to do

christmas is still very much a religious holiday in italy and lasts through epiphany, with none of the protestant nonsense of taking everything down the day after christmas --- every church, every town, and many houses set up a presepio (nativity scene), some of which were quite elaborate, like the one on the lawn at assisi ---

in addition to the prosepe, spello seemed to have been having a charlie brown christmas tree contest, with little decorated branches and what not set up in pots all over town

this home-made santa creeped me out

our home-town hero is honored around the world
