bevagna

saturday flea market --- italian junk is different, but still junk

as in rome, bevagna is built on, around, in, and with pieces from its ancient past, which in this case began with the etruscans in the 8th century bce ---
the entrance to the church of st. michael the archangel was a little archeological time capsule all its own

a town of 5,000 people, bevagna has at least a half dozen fine churches --- this is 11th century, chiesa di san silvestro --- along with the rest of bevagna it was pillaged on three different occasions in the middle ages
