A Baptist Church near Asheville, N.C., is hosting a "Halloween book burning" to purge the area of "Satan's" works, which include all non-King James versions of the Bible, popular books by many religious authors and even country music.they like the king james version of the bible because they want to read it just the way jesus said it --- it's funny if it weren't so sad --- wonkette also wonders how they came to this point

Taliban? Hardly. Baptists won't kill you for becoming a Catholic. They won't stone you to death for being gay. They won't tell you which hand to wipe your ass with or which foot to use when you enter the bathroom, which way to orient your toilet lest you anger Allah. They don't have prescribed rules for exactly how to beat your wife. They don't want to overturn the Constitution and institute Shariah law. Islam is the true enemy of civilization, not those small-brained fundamentalists in North Carolina.
yes, it's hyperbole, and not all or even a majority of baptists are of this ilk --- still, if it weren't for the nature of our secular society, there are american fundmentalists who could be just as evil as the real taliban --- in any case, it is unfair to paint all of islam as "the true enemy of civilization"---fundamentalism is the enemy, whether it be islamic, christianist, hindu, or jew ---
Nope, it's not just fundamentalist Muslims. The very message of the Quran and thus the mission of its adherents is to eliminate the competition. Conversion if possible, genocide if necessary. It's not a religion: it's an idealogy that makes old-style Cold War Communism look like Boy Scouts. Their practices are an externally-induced form of OCD and self-loathing. They will never assimilate. They are the real-life version of the Borg, and they fully exploit the generous Western belief that "we're all alike, they'll soften up." Read Bruce Bawer's "While Europe Slept," or Infidel" by Ayan Hirsi Ali. Both sobering and depressing.
