peachtree circle

one of this city's truly great buildings is first church of christ, scientist, on peachtree at fifteenth street/ peachtree circle----built in 1914 and angled to the wonderful curvilinear intersection on the east side of peachtree---that angle set the precedent for much later development, including colony square and campanile---- in the island at the center of what was a broad Y intersection, the daughters of the american revolution installed a memorial fountain in 1916---in the 1960s, an excellent abstract sculpture was added to the fountain---the idiot transportation planners could not be satisfied until they remodeled it to a standard T intersection----the fountain remains in place and the added trees will be ok but its a dumb move in terms of keeping traffic flowing---but then ansley park has the goal of turning their neighborhood into a gated community, so maybe this will help----
