seeing SF for the first time in nearly forty years was purty amazing --- castro still looked gay and there were still hippies and derelicts in the haight --- but the new money showed in the whole foods store on haight at the park and in the immaculately restored and maintained neighborhoods all over, many of which i remember as semi-derelict --- we walked over fifty miles, which i didn't expect to do in a city which is just one damn hill everywhere you go ---
