spring flowers and mid-20th century artifacts in midtown

worthless critters

there are very few horizontal surfaces in the house that dex hasn't napped on --- he wishes he could get on top of the heating ducts, but hasn't figured out how to do that yet

remembering a neighbor

this was one of a series of giant tulip poplars along the old stream bed between highland and sinclair avenues --- lightning hit it --- sure hate to see it's gone, but, hey, what a memorial!

upper midtown

walked up to rhodes hall for a little event this evening --- i don't get up that way too much, although it's only a little over a mile --- lots to look at

the japanese andromeda (pieris japonica) is nice, even if it is a furriner

read pavord's the tulip and you'll never look at them the same way again

hear, hear

"Of course same sex marriage is constitutional! The right to be yourself, to pursue life, liberty, and property, is protected several ways over several amendments. John Boehner should know this. If only he read the Constitution as often as some of us do, he wouldn’t have bothered to lower himself to this time-wasting, pathetic attempt to invigorate his base of supporters. "Damn, congressman, we’re trying to get up the road here. Either lay out a plan for job creation for all of us to see or get out of the way. You are the Speaker of the House. Scratching around in the ancient dirt of repellent prejudice instead of tackling the real issues is amateur hour. You have a plan? Now’s the time." -

warmongers

i cannot believe all these people going after obama for not "doing more" about libya, meaning bombing the fuk out of them --- a no-fly zone in bosnia did nothing to prevent the sbrenica massacre --- even the defense secretary thinks it's a dumb idea

i am extremely happy that we've got a president who will not be goaded ---

another benefit of tax cuts for the rich

i don't even like girl scout cookies, but, really, this wretched excuse for a state legislature is going to tax those cookies (and all our groceries) while lowering the corporate tax rate?

georgia: the state too stupid to be ashamed

go away winter

the japanese magnolia are quite attractive right now and the forsythia is peaking --- of course, most of the native stuff has had sense enough not to bloom just yet
