happy new year!

we didn't walk quite as far on new years day --- just under 30,000 steps over 12.89 miles and 48 steps, but that got us out market street to noodle around castro street, then up and around the hills to the haight and more noodling around and from there back downtown--- perfecto weather --- we noted very few derelict buildings, which is the upside of having a city with no middle class

winding down a crappy year

we did a lot of looking on new years eve, beginning with a visit to barbary coast, one of the new "dispensaries" --- wheeeee! --- then down to the ferry building and the embarcadero, coit tower, down to polk gulch and back over to downtown --- fitbit sez we took just over 31,000 steps to cover 13.5 miles and 59 floors

memories of orange sunshine

golden gate park is one of the more wonderful places i've been --- spectacularly clear skies and cool 50s made for a perfect day, even if we somehow didn't make time for the deyoung

the national aids memorial grove reminded again how many died, including all but one of the five friends i was with the first time i saw the park, in 1979

street seen

wonderful historic architecture everywhere, as well as a whole lot of homeless people sleeping on sidewalks and in doorways

i had a superb view from my hotel room

golden gate, mt tam, and what not

going back to big sur

we spent three nights in pacifica and ate a lot of fried seafood --- one day we drove down to big sur on hwy 1 through santa clara with detours through monterey and carmel --- frequent stops at overlooks and beaches, which were the best, what with big sur  itself being a bit less than i remembered
