today has been a bleak and depressing day --- went to bed around 11 when i saw things tanking --- woke up at 2 to find out he in fact had won and the dow futures are off 900 points --- in the end, hillary won the popular vote, while losing the electoral college, and the dow was up 250 --- the world's petty tyrants are congratulating him --- everybody else is waiting to see what this really means --- what it means to me is that the forces of racism, misogyny, and stingy politics are in full control --- president, senate, house, and most likely the supreme court for the rest of my lifetime ---

and then nephew jeff's girl friend this morning:  "And Jeff is smiling. The epitome of uneducated white male privilege who didn't even vote, has never voted, is thrilled because he understands trumps supporters and simply thinks Clinton is "a cunt". I find all of this beyond terrifying"

These people are lacking “something in them,” a moral code, and their very large numbers are a troubling indicator of a rot in the American soul.

the last of the presidential debates last night made it clear that trump is toast --- especially his last line about keeping us "in suspense" as to whether he would respect the election results --- he ought to lose all fifty state over that alone, but he won't

Instead of that, let's end with this: If you are voting for Donald Trump, you are a piece of shit. You are worthless, you are terrible, and I'm ashamed to say you are my fellow citizens. I have never felt that before about any election, and I've been through two George W. Bush wins. Well, one win. I don't want to reason with you. I don't want to convince you. I want you and your kind to dry up and become dust in the history of the nation.

dog and robert and i drove down to columbus today --- first time i had seen the place in fifteen years --- the "restored" falls of the chattahoochee were excellent --- and downtown columbus sorta blew me away --- they've come a long way in repairing the wreckage of the last century
