"a massive screwup"
as an atlanta native and gsu graduate who has been listening to wras since its inception in 1971, i am hopping mad at the deal announced yesterday to merge gpb and wras programming, eliminating half of the music programming for TALK!!!! clearly gsu administration
has no idea of the importance of this medium, especially to those of us who
love new and non-mainstream music, or maybe they do and that is exactly why this is happening --- gsu president said it would help the school "better serve the Atlanta region" --- bullshit --- this is a major diminishment of Atlanta's
cultural resources, and with nary a word of public input
all so they can compete with wabe, which of course is owned and operated by city of atlanta school system
and
for $150,000? that won't even pay for all the staff time dealing with the
blowback from this dumb decision --- even the atlanta business chronicle is shocked ---
update: then to bury this hoo-ha, a deal was announced this afternoon for ga state u to buy turner field and rehab it for a football stadium --- a great thing there, but the radio situation still sucks
