the motel
spent a couple of nigihts at sacred canyon lodge, aka thunderbird lodge, located inside the national monument right at the canyon mouth (part of the site floods out some time) originally a homestead (c. 1913), converted into a lodge when the monument was established in 1931 --- i stayed in a newer, motel section (c. 1980) since the older rooms are now used by nps --- unfortunately the restaurant, which is in the old trading post, is federally run so it wasn't open
