museum of the american indian, nyc

founded in 1916 by George Heye, who excavated part of Nacoochee mound in 1915, the museum is in the old nyc customs house ----

some purty great stuff, including a wonderful drawing (1885) by Rain-in-the-Face

and a scalp shirt that Little Big Man gave to an army officer, telling him it had belonged to or at least been worn by Crazy Horse, which is probably not true, since the latter never kept scalps, but left them lying on the ground

This is such an interesting place --- putting it on the list of "go to's".
