an adjective or a verb?

When a conservative audience boos gay soldiers, cheers for letting uninsured people die, cheers Newt Gingrich’s blatant race-baiting, boos Juan Williams, and shouts “string him up” when Gingrich mentions Obama in his SC victory speech, “the base is revolting” is right on the mark.

he cannot be a gentleman which loveth not a dog.

john northbrooke, c. 1570

in fact, this larger notion that the only thing we can do to restore prosperity is just dismantle government, refund everybody’s money, and let everyone write their own rules, and tell everyone they’re on their own -- that’s not who we are -- that’s not the story of america.

barack obama, 8 sept 2011

I never meant to say that the Conservatives are generally stupid. I meant to say that stupid people are generally Conservative. I believe that is so obviously and universally admitted a principle that I hardly think any gentleman will deny it.

john stuart mill in a letter to the conservative mp, sir john pakington (march 1866)

Against stupidity the gods themselves contend in vain.
