what am i leaving out?
after a couple of distressing interactions this week with people i care about, i've been thinking about the different sorts of people who have put us here in trumpistan and, for a start, came up with: money grubbers; religious zealots; racists, nativists, and white supremacists; and inexplicably dumb people

perfection
a gorgeous day --- the kind of day that really makes me love my glass walls --- rummaging around in old census and tax records, online! dog and flowers --- and the river

dodging the reaper
walked down to crawford long for follow up on the heart thing --- all clear and good to go, until the next time!

a real winter in dixie
first, they forecast nothing, then maybe half inch of snow, or maybe an inch, or not as the storm seemed to be breaking up as it got closer --- but it snowed lightly most of the night and we had close to two inches of fine powdery snow --- second decent snow this season, and a lot of years we don't get any ---
guinness has enjoyed going out in it. i think --- even if it doesn't take much of a little drift at the curb to be up to his chest
it is not often that one sees nearly all of the deep south covered in snow --- there was snow or sleet in all fifty states this morning!
but not all that much fun to be out in it --- low of 12 degrees or some such this morning and 17 tomorrow morning --- average is a high of 52 and low of 33

i'm locked in tight, i'm out of range . . .
People are crazy and times are strange
I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range
I used to care, but things have changed
. . . .
I've been walking forty miles of bad road
If the bible is right, the world will explode
I've been trying to get as far away from myself as I can
Some things are too hot to touch
The human mind can only stand so much
You can't win with a losing hand
it's all about the dog
there's a lot of the neighborhood at various times of night and day that i would never see were it not for the mutt
dog threw up next to my desk, but then he ate it all back up --- "as a dog returns to his folly, so a fool returns to his folly" ---- proverbs 26:11

back at the river . . .
it's been over a month since dog and i have been to the river --- our little loop upriver this afternoon felt good
the winter garden
the anthurium and the euphorbia milii never stop blooming, and the left-over balcony geranium won't either, although it looks purty scraggly this time of year --- the dendrobium and space-alien oncidiums bloom two or three times a year and are going at it now -- waiting in the wings is a store-bought amaryllis and the zygopetalum --- one can never have too many indoor blossoms in the winter
el gato is a spot of color of a different sort

Templo Mayor
Unlike Teotihuacan, the so-called Templo Mayor, which was at the heart of the Sacred Precinct in Tenochtitlan. was ruined during the Spanish conquest. Construction work in the 1970s led to federal acquisition and clearing of the site --- serious archaeological investigation began in 1978. The presentation today shows aspects of five different construction campaigns beginning in the thirteenth century. Much of the Sacred Precinct remains un-excavated under the Catedral, Zocalo, and surrounding areas. Archaeology is ongoing, and among the discoveries were the remains of an ancient tree surrounded by a low stone wall, which was purty awesome.
Teotihaucan
I really don't have a "bucket list," but if I did, Teotihuacán would be near the top. Standing at the top of the Pyramid of the Sun and looking down the Avenue of the Dead from the Pyramid of the Moon, the scale of it all is overwhelming. Our half day there was not nearly enough, and we were only able to see half of the part of the city that has been excavated and restored --- gotta go back.
the dogs were not strays
Although the ceremonial buildings along the Avenue of the Dead were burned 1,500 years ago, the site was never entirely abandoned --- archaeological investigation, restoration, and reconstruction have been ongoing since the late nineteenth century>
One of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites, it also has hundreds of thousands of visitors each year
