the skyline

a fine summer day in atlanner --- unless i'm mistaken, the third building at the "12th and midtown" development has topped out --- this will be the skyline for the next few years

clara meer

i think the lake is having some water-quality issues

extreme exhibitionism

22---count 'em---22 live cams all over his house, plus a weather scroll that gives you all the relevant readings from a weather station on his roof--- you can even turn his lights off and on ---seriously--- there is something slightly messed up about this, but i can't quite put my finger on what it is (thx robert)

pool party

it's not right not to be anticipating a parade tomorrow

you and me

i think that we have too many communication media

coming soon

an "upscale" cocktail lounge on the 8th street side of metropolis----hudson's grill across the street where sweet lowdown was; piola peach at 1010; and some place at viewpoint that will sell "air fries"on the other hand, cuervo at 905 juniper is closing and chocolate pink is up for sale---

mississippi

it is a very special place, although it's largest city is not much to look at from the air --- i was just there overnight which was good, not only because it was mississippi, but it was also ultra-humid and in the mid nineties

art from a moving sidewalk

usually i can get to the airport in time to walk to the first concourse, mainly because of the excellent permanent exhibit of sculpture from zimbabwe---actually i like most of the airport art is good, especially the giant fire ants at baggage claim

iran

not too many years ago, with a situation like that in iran, nobody outside that country would have any idea what was going on---but throughout the last few days images and short reports flood out of the country via intermittent cell phone service, twitter or whatever----the govt is confiscating satellite dishes, smashing computers, etc., but iran is too rich and too sophisticated for that to be totally effective---watch the woman at the end of this vid getting beat to the ground but getting right back up and continuing to raise hell

13 June 2009

grrrrrrrrrrrrr

and now we find out that a bush-appointed mormon was one of the three justice officials that wrote and filed the goddam thing

12 June 2009

just another politician

obama campaigned on promises to advance the civil rights of gay americans----we still can't serve openly in the military and now his dept. of justice is going out of its way to defend doma? what is he thinking? depressing

south georgia souvenir

got some excellent cling-stone peaches on the way back from cumberland island ---- reworked them into a deep-dish cobbler

penny redo

it's the bicentennial of his birth don't you know----two out of three people to whom i showed it wanted to know who that was fishing

cumberland island again

boats and ferries for cumberland island leave from st. mary's (and from fernandina in florida)---the st. marys river originates in the okeefenokee and is a blackwater river---

coprolitic debris

wouldn't you know it? the oldest evidence of humans in north america, radio-carbon dated to 14,300 years ago, are turds found in a cave in oregon

can't have nothing nice

rummaging through old slides, i found this image from 1986---designed by p. thornton marye, who also did terminal station, this was bell telephone's new north exchange, built in 1916, demolished in 1988, now part of the site of the federal reserve bank (the building just visible at left is the building just east of the midtown marta station)

yum

now i have to figure out who to give it to so i don't eat it
